Janahit Gramin Sewa Samiti (JGSS) is a Sindhupalchowk based NGO, registered in 1992, is
pioneer in conducting economic development, social mobilization, local
governance, poverty reduction, health, and sanitation and hygiene promotion
programs in the district.
JGSS, in partnership with Oxfam, is implementing Nepal Earthquake
Recovery 2017 in Sindhupalchok. The project aims to provide assistance to
population of the most vulnerable and poor, earthquake affected population of
Jugal rural municipality and and few wards of Chautara Sangachokgadhi
Municipality of the district through the restoration of WASH facilities and
promotional activities, Shelter, DRR, food security and vulnerable livelihood
and gender and protection. In order to execute the project activities in
aforementioned clusters, we are hiring competent staffs for the following
positions.
JOB PROFILE
JOB TITLE: Public Health Promotion (PHP) Officer
LOCATION: Sindhupalchok
SALARY: As per the scale
JOB PURPOSE: To deliver the public health
promotion humanitarian recovery in respective assigned and working rural
municipality/municipality of Sindhupalchok.
REPORTING LINES: Program
Coordinator
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide
regular activities wise (session, event, meeting, assessment, FGD,case
story and field visit) reports, update reports on time to the linemanager
and Oxfam PHP officer in coordination with Assistant and S.M. (including
age, sex, disaggregated data,meeting minutes, attendance sheets, and
sharing weekly and monthly key achievements )
- Plan ,
implement and monitor the hygiene promotion intervention in conjunction
with the Public Health Engineering
- Support
Assistant and S.M. to manage health volunteers and WASH committees in a
defined area.
- Work closely
with other sectoral teams to ensure and applied addressing the public
health, EFSVL, Gender, DRR and protection needs of the beneficiaries.
- Support
Assistant and S.M. to provide capacity-building support and accompaniment to
the implementation of WASH committees and health volunteers on hygiene
promotion, provision of appropriate IEC materials and formats.
- Close
coordinate with stakeholder, local authorities, and community people to
ensure community with women’s participation and hygiene practices are
improved.
- Support line
manager (PC) and Oxfam’s PHP team in planning, budgeting of overall PHP
related activities.
- Support WASH
team to delivering the WASH program in the defined area.
- Support in the
design and implementation of activities to achieve the ODF status of
assigned and working area along with total sanitation strategy.
- Frequent field
visit to ensure the quality of the program.
- Conducts
assessment and baseline studies in order to identify WASH-related health
risks and priorities.
- Collect record
and interpret qualitative and quantitative data.
- Use assessment
data to design participatory PHP interventions appropriate for the local
context and culture.
- Support
assistants to carry out hygiene promotion session,event/activities with
volunteers and WASH committees.
- Ensure the
implementation of hygiene promotion interventions for specific target
groups e.g. school children, women and men groups.
- To ensure that
program take gender, protection issues fully into account. Ensure safe
programming approach is undertaken at all stages of program
implementations.
- Identify and
request appropriate health promotion materials and equipments required or
the project
- Maximize the
value of integrated working with PHE, Gender, EFSVL and logistics
teams
- Facilitate
communication and cohesive working between PHEs and PHPs.
- To stay in
assigned program site and completely involve in program
implementation
- Gender,
culture and language sensitive.
SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES :
- BPH or a
suitable qualification in any discipline relating to Public Health
Promotion of degree in social science with at least two years of practical
experience in community mobilization and appropriate community health and
sanitation programs.
- Good
understanding of the health and hygiene risks of IDPs, poor rural and
urban communities and of appropriate ways of tackling them. Must be aware
of and sensitive to the particular needs of women in the context.
- Capacity
building of assistant and SM if required.
- Assessment,
analytical and planning skill.
- Confident
communicator and willingness to work in collaboration with others and
respectful to the community.
- Take
responsibility for own work and delegated project/processes (including
some leadership)
- Good written
and spoken English and Nepali is essential.
- Computer skill
and Report writing skill is must.
